The iD8873 consists of step-down switching regulator with PWM control. These devise include a reference voltage source, oscillation circuit, error amplifier, internal PMOS and etc. iD8873 provides low-ripple power, high efficiency and external transient characteristics. The PWM control circuit is able to the duty ratio linearly form 0 up to 100%.

The converter is built with a soft start function that prevents overshoot and inrush current at startup. An over current protection function and short circuit protection are built inside, and when OCP or SCP happens, the operation frequency will be reduced. The operating frequency can be set by an outside resistance. An external compensation is easily to be adjusted for a stable system . With the addition of an internal P-channel Power MOS, a coil, capacitors, and a diode connected externally, these ICs can function as step-down switching regulators. They serve as ideal power supply units for portable devices when coupled with the PSOP-8 with exposed pad package. Since this converter can accommodate an input voltage up to 40V, it is suitable for car application and also for a broader use of via an AC adapter.
