Kionix Unveils Highest Performing Accelerometer for Navigation, Combining Low Noise and Low Power
Ithaca, New York – Tuesday, June 10, 2008 – Kionix, Inc., a global leader in the design and fabrication of high-performance, silicon-micromachined MEMS inertial sensors, today presented the KXRB5 series of accelerometers, designed specifically for navigation applications requiring a low-noise solution across a broad operating temperature range.
“The KXRB5 brings the superb performance of our KXR94 product line into a low-power architecture without losing anything in noise performance,” said Eric Eisenhut, Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “This product has the lowest noise performance in the marketplace [45 μg/√ Hz] for a commercial grade accelerometer in its size category.”
Key performance parameters also include a 500 μA current, excellent stability over temperature, digital 3-wire SPI or Analog output, 12-14 bit sensor resolution, separate IO power to interface digitally down to 1.8V, auxiliary input with a 4-channel multiplexer, and factory-programmable Vdd from 2.5 to 5.25V.
Ideal for inertial navigation and dead reckoning, the KXRB5, packaged in a 3x5x0.9mm LGA, is the accelerometer of choice for the PND market. At the same time, the KXRB5 is an excellent selection for such applications as gesture recognition in cell phones and handheld PDAs, inclination and tilt sensing for game controllers and computer peripherals, and free-fall detection in ultra-mobile PCs, hard disk drives, and laptop computers.
