Grenchen, October 26th 2006: Micro Crystal presents the OV-7604-CV, the world’s smallest low frequency oscillator in a ceramic SMD package. The 32.768kHz oscillator will be shown on the combined Swatch Group Electronic Systems stand at the Electronica 2006 in Munich (14.11. –17.11.2006), Hall A3, Stand 650.

Portable applications are becoming more and more integrated as they usually host  a wide range of  functions.  Resulting is a need for extremely small and versatile components. Micro Crystal leads this trend now in the quartz components industry. With the OV-7604-CV you will get a full 32.768kHz oscillator in a package that up to now just contained a crystal. Base for the development was the Micro Crystal CC7. This 32.768kHz crystal is currently the smallest ceramic package option in the industry for very high volumes. In case of the OV-7604-C7, an SMD ceramic package with a mere size of 3.2 x 1.5 x 1.0 mm3 max now hosts a tuning fork crystal and a CMOS oscillation IC.

Within this exceptional size comes also exceptional performance. The wide voltage range from 5.5V down to 1.2V ensures reliable operation even on low battery. A max current consumption of the OV-7504-C7 of 0.3μA supports a long lifetime of the battery. As such it is 10 times lower than that of comparable products and 10\'000 times lower than the consumption of AT-based oscillators. This is one of the main reasons for the popularity of low frequency oscillators for battery driven applications. Also the short start up time of 0.5sec max is contributing to low power consumption of the application.

There is a constantly growing demand for low frequency oscillators on the market. The integration of analog oscillation circuits has become an issue with the actual IC process technologies. The OV-7604-C7 will help to significantly reduce development times and therefore time to market. It represents a simple and highly reliable plug and play solution. Also for demoboard development it is the ideal choice, as it is extremely small and can be easily replaced by the CC7, a 32.768kHz crystal in the same housing.

Samples of the Micro Crystal OV-7604-C7 are available, volume production will start beginning of 2007. The oscillator is 100% lead free and RoHS compliant.
