Weltrend Semiconductor announced that its USB Power Delivery (PD) controller chipsets passed the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) certification test for USB-Type-CTM DFP (Downstream Facing Port) applications. The Weltrend controllers passed the full set of compliance tests at the recently held USB-IF Compliance Workshop event in Taipei, Taiwan.

Weltrend’s USB PD controllers address a broad set of market segments for the emerging USB Type-C products including power adapters for USB Type-C based notebooks, 2-in-1s, tablets, and smartphones as well as USB Type-C based accessories such as docking stations and dongles.

The Weltrend USB PD controllers are high-voltage process based and are highly integrated to minimize external components. The controllers integrate USB-PD baseband PHY, Type-C cable detection, shunt regulator, voltage and current monitors, discharge port, MCU and control circuit of blocking MOSFET.
An embedded programmable memory is available for program code and user configuration data. An on-chip regulator can operate at single power supply from 4V to 30V.

Key features of Weltrend’s USB PD controllers include:
